Can't say if there is/was an exact equivalent of Camp Coffee over in the US, but a true Rhode Islander will savour and favour Eclipse Coffee Syrup in milk. Probably like getting pre-sweetened Camp Coffee. I've never tried making coffee cake with it - I'm too busy drinking it as intended, or, it makes a good topping for raspberry sherbet (raspberry ices?)
