Nancy: "we're going to be back at school messing about with Magna Carta" This surely implies a boarding school - otherwise she would have at least been able to go to the North Pole at a weekend.

I doubt if a day school would have refused to accept back peope who had been in contact with mumps, although certainly there was in my school days a ritual of bringing in a health form at the beginning of each term.
