Well, yes and no. I live in the fair city of Melb'n, [Melbourne]which has an arch-rival to the north-east called Sinny [Sydney] which we reckon is highly appropriate. Yet we have the fine Tasmanian town of Launceston being called LonCESSton, not Lawnston, as the Cornish original is. However, the one that has me baffled is Brightlingsea, in Essex. Surely the locals have found a way to condense that mouthful.
