Andy -

Sorry, just got back from week away, starting at IAGM then working on Talyllyn Railway. It was an excellent event, well-organised with plenty of variety of activities and talks. Baskerville Hall offered a wide range of accommodation - the campsite area was basic but comfortable and very friendly. There were about 150 at the IAGM, with one member and a guest family from California, including many Juniors - and the older ones seemed to gell well as a group, entering two teams in the Dick Callum cup (though I think there were more than four in each team!). Mike Glover and team deserve a round of thanks. The minibus, driven by Steve, was a great help for getting around.

Sailing was good on Llangorse Lake, though due to the wind Cochy was rowed in the morning, but sailed in the afternoon. There were five Optimists for juniors to sail on their own, in a small lagoon by the boathouse. This was very popular with all the juniors, who proceeded to get very wet. The red kite visit on Sunday was well appreciated by everyone who went. The ceilidh dance (or twmpath in Welsh) on Sunday evening was great fun and again mixed all ages. Sorry for tripping you up, Sheila.

The main message of the IAGM seemed to be, we need new members to avoid an subscription increase. There were loads of ideas around this, such as giving room for donations on the membership form, a three or five year discounted junior membership for grandparents to give to grandchildren etc (rather than them dropping out after one year). Hopefully these will be formulated into an action plan. Geraint Lewis revealed the idea of building a replica Swallow at the IBTC in Lowestoft.

I organised a ginger-beer tasting, the full results will appear in The Outlaw, which people seemed to enjoy (well, except for no. 2). If anyone wished to contribute thoughts about different types of ginger
beer, let me know.

I'm sure fuller accounts will be available, but in summary, a really good event with lots for families and APs alike.

Rob
