Well Folks:

I made it to Greece and back safely. I had a good journey with British Airways flying through Chicago, London and onto Athens. The day spent in England was great. I purchased a tube ticket for all zones.

The tube was absolutley packed with tourists and Londoners. I have been on packed Japanese trains, these were close to a Japanese train for crowded. I travelled to the Embankment Station and walked to the Thames. Muddy and a lot of junk floating in the water. Ye alte Thames looks like the Mississippi at Saint Louis in colour and texture. I was directly opposite some big Ferris Wheel. Only the British could place such a building in the middle of 2000 years of history and get away with the absolute difference in ages and styles.

I walked from the Embankment to the Tower of London. Considering my back pak weighed about 10 kilograms I thought that was a good effort for an elderly man. I crossed on the Millenium Bridge (it is worth a look at the Arup web site that describes this bridge.), walked past the Globe Theatre - where I stopped to buy a T Shirt for Eliza - bought some lunch and then walked across Tower Bridge. The Tower of London was great, just as I remembered it from 1969. It is nice to know somethings change slowly.

There was a wedding going on in the Chapel and the bride walked across the yard. She looked lovely, although I thought walking past the site of the executions was not a great way to start a wedding.

So I had a great day. England was as usual nice and sunny.

JMN
