There was a problem as the landlord wanted a rent increase from, I understand, £50,000 to £5,000,000. This was unacceptable to British Airways, who put up the capital, also to Madame Tussauds who manage it.
The landlord was a public body and not a private corporation.
There was a proposal to sell the London Eye to Paris, as Paris badly needed one as they had sold their own during one of their recent, I understand, financial crises.
However the Mayor of London, (not the Lord Mayor of London – who has his Show in October/November), has interceded between the parties and the Eye will remain in London. However the planning permission is still temporary.

I am sure that any relationship of the above to “Alice in Wonderland” is purely coincidental but is part of the daily life of a Londoner.
