I usually drill a hole about 0.5 mm smaller than than the copper nail to hold it in place. I was given a list of fasteners to buy, I am sure I will finish the boat with half the nail fasterers left over, which would not be a problem except that they are the small ones and of not much use.
There is no where on this boat that one can not rove. The fasterers I really like have a 19/64th inch head, a 9/64 body( I think this dimension is correct.) and they take a 7/16th rove nicely.
As it turns out 64ths are nice units to deal with drills and copper nail sizes. Drilling for the head of the nail is fun as I can not get a 19/64th drill bit and so I use a size 20. It is just a fraction large.
The other interesting feature is when fitting a plank the dolfinite makes it slippery and so it tends to track downwards a fraction as it is fitted and clamped and the edge of the plank separates from the next plank down. I have tried tacking pieces of wood to the lower plank and it still happens.
I also learnt not to cut out the next plank till I have planed the lower plank. Sometimes planing can really change the shape of a plank.
We all learn. And I am still having fun.
