Deks Olje [the second part is pronounced olya] ignores epoxy resin, and yes, it is intended for boats as well as patio decks. I use it on the spars of my old ketch 'Swallow' [it's had that name since 1917] and it is easy to look after if you are thorough with the application in the first place.
The theory of it is simple; the oil soaks into the wood and fills up all the little pores etc. Pores which are full of oil cannot accept water, which degrades wood. The Number 2 is a thick varnish-like coating which keeps the UV and weather out. Unlike varnish, when you come to recoat it, you just put more on; there's no sanding the old surface. Varnish is hard, and loses its grip on the wood when moisture gets under it or when the UV degrades it. Deks Olje is softer, can expand and shrink with the wood, and as I said, soaks into it. The bond is much stronger. The final finish of number 2 is a satin rather than a hard gloss. If you only use the number 1, you'll have matte finish. Where there is dolfinite or epoxy resin, the Deks Olje just runs off to where there is wood to soak into.
David.
