In WH, Mrs Blackett arrived at Holly Howe in a hired car. Why?
Was Rattletrap to cold or dangerous to drive. Cars in those days had no heating and windscreens might freeze up and the wipers were poor.
Had Rattletrap been laid up for the winter. People used to do this sometimes in that era.
Had Mrs Blackett had a more serious collision and Rattletrap may have been in for repairs.
Any other theories? Who would have been brave enough to hire a car to Mrs Blackett anyway. Where was the nearest garage or did she have the car delivered?
