My copy of The Big Six is a 1970's Puffin edition. The blurb in the front quotes part of the book, where Pete (I think it was Pete? I can't find the book at the moment) asks "why the Big Six?" and Dorothea tells him about the "Big Five" and Scotland Yard. But I haven't been able to find that particular passage in the book. I presume it's supposed to be there, since it's also quoted in an advertisement for The Big Six in some of my other S&A books.

So I'm wondering - were the Puffin editions abridged in any way? (I know Swallows and Amazons for Ever contained abridged versions of Coot Club and The Big Six, but I'm not talking about that.) Whereabouts is that tiresome passage supposed to be? Maybe it is in the book after all, and for some reason I simply haven't been able to find it...
