In THOSE days?

Over 30 years later, in the winter of '62 (of which I may have written on TARBOARD before), I had to lower the roof of my convertible Morris Minor and put a stack of cushions on the seat so that I could drive almost standing, peering over the top of the windscreen, which was so iced as to be quite impossible to see through. There was a heater, but it didn't heat, at least in those conditions.

I don't think that a Policeman today would approve, especially on heavily iced roads.

I had always assumed that Mrs Blackett's hired car was what is legally called 'private hire', that is a taxi which you have to order in advance, and which would have a professional driver.

The summer before Mrs Blackett had taken the Great Aunt (and Nancy and Peggy) out in a horse drawn carriage. So did she even have Rattletrap at that time? Or did the GA just think a horse drawn carriage was more refined for a drive?
