As I see that meal dial picture, it seems that the viewer is facing North. To the right es East; to the left is West. The sun rises in the morning in the East, that is, to the right of the viewer, and thus the sticke's shadow will go to the left, towards the Breakfast stake. At noon, the sun is directly behind the viewer, as it is in the South. The shadow will go directly forward from the viewer, or to the dinner stake. In the evening, the sun is setting in the West, or to the left of the viewer, casting its shadow to the right, near the supper stake. According to the position of the several shadows shown, the time is late evening, as the shadows of the short stakes are rather long, and are extended to the right, to the East.

Therefore I conclude that the picture is correct as shown.

Now if this was in Australia...
