The Maunder minimum was discussed in some detail in a recent Scientific American article on global warming. It is certainly considered related to the small ice age. I recently gave my copy of the article to my daughter, but my memory is that farming started the global warming, and it has accelerated recently although the evidence stretches back a long way. I think I am correct in saying that the global warming is on top of an underlying return to an ice age, but I could be wrong.

The predictions in the article were for a cessation of the gulf stream caused by the influx of fresh water which will have a dramatic impact on England, Real Polar Bears in the Lake District?

As long as I remember the warming stories have just gotten worse and the science more definitive. Even the greatest sceptic has to accept we are in need of a solid fix.
