The tale I was told in the bush was - try a little bit of a new bush and then wait several hours - if it does not kill you or make you sick try a bit more. A fatal dose is not usually a small amount. But this could be bad advice, but if I was starving to death I am sure that I would use the advice.
Any snake you step on will bite you. Some will kill you, quickly and some will kill you, slowly and some will just hurt like hell.
