Further to my thread on my brother thinking that only a good glass boat will do. I got a price for a 470 from the best maker in the world in Italy. The prices were:

That is 2382 Euros per metre or about 726 per foot. A wooden canoe from the best US manuacturer is about 300 per foot or 1000 per metre. Our local restaurant has a nice wooden canoe in the window and the owner told me it cost 5,000.
The cost of the Mary Anne so far is 1 foot of 470 or 2.5 feet of canoe. I am not even upto 1 metre.
Finally David said that a new mast for an Etchell is 9,000.
So much for carving one from a Norway Pole.
