Having recently re-read PD I quite agree with John Brown that it would
make a very good film for the many reasons he gives. But just because
of the great variety of locations which would make it so interesting,
it would be an expensive project. It is interesting that among the 12 books
it was found to be one of the least popular when Rodney Dingle made his
survey in 1991 which was published by Amazon publications & called
Distilled Enthusiasms. And yet it would probably make the best film.
Misee Lee was the other less popular book. They are the least credible
among the books & I reckon that Ransome Fans young & old have liked best
the books in which they could imagine themselves taking part. The best
publicity for Ransome would be through his books. But it is a question
of a) getting permission from the Literary Executers and publisher & b)
finding someone with a spare bob or two !! I agree with Peter that a
good biography of Ransome would also be a good subject for a film but
to make it of general interestand thus marketable his experiences in
Russia during the Revolution would have to be well researched and
documented in such a film. There is a great deal of work that still
needs to be done before such a film could be made. Again money would
be a factor !!
