These differences work both ways. I was extremely surprised, when out sailing with a remote cousin in Long Island Sound, when he suggested mooring to a 'booey'. I had only ever met 'boys' in English-speaking waters.

As for SCROW, I had assumed it rhymed with 'bough', just as CROW rhymes with 'though'. But what about ESCROW? Like crow, I believe. These are deep waters, Watson.
