Good suggestion, Laurence, and I do that at the stern. But, I drive the boat from the upper helm on the bridge when in marinas, and the bridge deck is eight feet above the dock. Usually others see me coming and come to the dock to pick up the mooring lines I have ready along the railings. (They like to see me tied up before I smash into their boats - self preservation really - although I always have suitable treats (cans of ale) ready.
