A court is where both sides present an argument and one person gets to decide. There is of course the famous case in Texas related to a cigarette. However to set the scene, I would hark back to the story of the Monarch of the Glen in which Compton Mackenzie developed an interesting type of creation myth. The Clan's lands were given to the early Chief based on the distance he could run in a day. (I believe that is correct, if I am wrong I am sure someone will provide the real truth of the matter.)

Of course defining such a tract would be difficult in a modern court of law. As I am sure saying who owns exactly what in Scotland would be very difficult, especially rights of way that may date back a thousand years. So in Texas a plan exists with the length defined as a cigarette, which is in reality the distance a man can walk whilst smoking a cigarette. The Judge decided the distance was 1240 feet or 398 metres. I wonder if the judge had been working in metric if he would have rounded the number to 400 metres.

So I must say having been in a few court cases with scant evidence, then My Lord I would conclude that

"the drawing that Dr Arthur Ransome made of the getaway car clearly represents a Crossley 25/30 cleverishly disguised using the older 8 point tyres. The accused Stanley Crachett has devishly taken the 8 point tyres from his father's car and placed them on the Duke of Argylle's Crossley on the day of the murder... I say that the accused should hang for the crime of murder of Oscar Wilde on the 19th July 1899.

In court the drawing could be very valuable. My vote is for the 25/30 but I can not fathom how it had the different tyres.

I agree his drawings are quite accurate, so I am sure the car he sketched had the 8 point tyres.
