As a very junior officer I recall standing on the flight deck of HMS LONDON visiting the Pool of London in the early 80s. At 0800 the Duty Commanding Officer ordered 8 bells to be struck and the white ensign hoisted. On about the third ring of the bell it fell off its bracket and clanged across the flight deck - in front of dozens of London commuters crossing Tower Bridge and watching from offices. We got our own back. On the same visit technicians accidentally activated the missile fire control radar - which affected computers in a nearby office block. A memorable visit!
