Sorry for the confusion - they are two distinct illustrations. Patrick is right about the illustration in question; it is "On The Way to the Islands", and depicts Goblin, but not Wizard entering the Secret Water. The question is whether there is any indication of Wizard being towed, since the boat is not present in the picture. In the 1940 MacMillan first US edition, there is a curved line from Goblin's stern toward the waterline which I interpret as Wizard's painter. Steve evidently doesn't see it in his 1968 edition, from which I infer that the publishers tried to "clean up" the plate when the book was re-typeset (see also the re-use of the "Blue Peter" illustration instead of the Swallow and Amazon flags and the Eel totem Tim has noted on the Trivia Page). If anyone has any further questions, I can e-mail a scan of the picture.
