Nicholas Tucker's appreciation of Arthur Ransome as a Children's Writer on the literary pages cites a study of adult pornography fanciers where some of the respondents claim to have been aroused by that chapter. Since the author of the study gave a different chapter title, and describes the prisoner as a member of a "rival gang", I have to wonder if she actually confused this with something written by some other author, or was stretching reality to support her thesis.
