Robert -

I'm right here, counting my blessings. It was a near miss with Katrina as she came ashore in southeastern Florida as a catgegory ONE. So it trimmed a few limbs that needed to be removed anyway. A few stoplights were out for an hour or so here and there. We dodged a bullet.

The real story is not where I am, but is at the New Orleans area of the country along that Gulf shore, where it came in as a Category FIVE and really caused tragic consequences the effects of which we will be feeling for a long time to go. It is going to take a long time before the infrastructure returns to the Status Quo of before the storm.

As to the flaky email id that failed to reach me - I have no idea what happened. Maybe I just did a typo when entering the id you were referencing. No idea what id you were attempting when it failed, but not to worry, we here have been doing just fine.

We are counting our blessings for even the little daily things one takes for granted - like flipping on a power switch - taking something from the freezer to thaw for supper - TV and cable ON and showing continuous horror of what others are going through - feel the cool air from the air conditioning vents - sleep in a comfortable and dry bed under a solid roof - and glory be, the wonders of being able to press the lever on that tank on the throne room and see everything go down the tubes properly. A lot of people on the north Gulf shore can do NONE of the above.

But it was a good time to re-read those fascinating descriptions in Chapter 30 "The Storm" in Swallows and Amazons. At least, they all survived. Too bad that scene never made it into that 1974 movie.

Thanks for your concern.

Ed Kiser, South Florida - alive and well. And grateful for both.
