Modern technology is a marvelous thing. Here I was, in a room by myself, in South Florida (Boca Raton it was) and I could see them, a room full, there on the other side of the Pond. We could see and hear each other. We were together, yet an ocean (and 5 hours) separated us. Less scary than an overseas commercial air flight. Cheaper too. It was my first shot at being a part of video conferencing. Never too old to learn. But then, experience with All Things Ransome is very much a learning experience.

From my own point of view, it all went rather well, with me finishing with 20 seconds to go, which unfortunately did not leave any time for the Q&A dialog, but the opinion that matters is to come from those that were on the receiving end. I was very pleased to be asked to make this presentation. As to how much of it is to be made available to the non-atendees, that is up to Alan Hakim and his crew. We shall see how well they survived the encounter. I even showed up wearing a Squashy Hat.

To me, it seemed a bit strange to see that sea of faces and to realize that I had no idea what name belonged to what face. The names I may have seen here on the TARBOARD. I may have had some email enterchanges with some of these, yet the faces are totally unknown. Yet I felt that I was with a bunch of dear friends, if for no reason other than we all shared a love for All Things Ransome - and that is what it was all about.

Maybe now they can have a better understanding what made this crazy colonial actually TYPE in all twelve of these stories. It gave me a greater insight into these stories as it made me read EVERY WORD, with no skimming or skipping. While doing the typing, I found there were places that I had not remembered, and perhaps, had not actually read before. We all know the joy of reading for the first time a new Ransome story. In a way, by typing them in, I was seeing some parts for the first time, a joy when I had been previously resigned to accepting that I had read them all, there were no new ones to come out. So there was still some sense of newness by being forced by the typing process to read EVERY word, including those that somehow, I had managed to skip unintentionally on previous readings.

It sure beats smoke signals.
