It would be lovely if Ed's talk could be made freely available to all Tarboarders but one point to bear in mind is the cost to TARS of setting up that cross-Atlantic electronic link with Ed. It was money very well spent, and budgeted for in the cost of the conference, but it would be good for TARS if a small part could be recouped by encouraging people to join TARS and buy the transcripts.

My understanding is that Arthur Ransome’s literary executors have kindly allowed TARS to reproduce any copyright material they control, including text and illustrations, in the society’s publications because they are sold only to society members. (The New Chalet Club and Friends of the Chalet School have a similar arrangement with Elinor Brent-Dyer’s literary heirs.)

If I have got this wrong in any way or been indiscreet in any way, then I apologise, but I don’t think TARS should be seen as deliberately withholding any material from Tarboard without reason – they simply have to play by the rules.
