I don't believe this.
When my mother (born 1926) was young, she read S&A to her younger brother and pretended the bed was Wild Cat Island.
I was born in 1961 and naturally my mother read Swallows & Amazons to me.
I went on to read them all.
I've just finished reading my daughter (Charlotte, aged 7 - nearly 8) all 12, and we're just reading Coots In The North.
She's started reading them to her mum.
and now,
Briget's on the net!!!!!!!!
