Well, we are.

Don't agree. Ransome was a serious writer who wrote 12 children's books which have been very widely read and have never been out of print. This phenomenon is worthy of serious study, as is the effect AR has had on successive generations of child readers. Is that effect good or bad? Are we right in assuming that it was always good?

I don't like this giggly 'aren't we quaint?' attitude to Ransome studies - and I'm sorry to say, as in the case Dan describes, it comes from people who should know better.

(I must add that I am not against having a laugh in discussing AR - there are plenty to be had.)
