Dan, the first book you mention is not a true first edition, as it should otherwise just have the words "First published 1940". Your Picts & Martyrs appears to be a true first, as it has only the words "First published 1943". Incidentally this was the only one of the twelve first editions to have the date of printing on the same page as the dedication. ("To Aunt Helen, C.F.C.A. Plus 100 A1") Prices seem OK, but would be as much as ten times that with a dust-wrapper.
