Ed wrte: There are two other storms that are painted so well in his discriptive prose, and those are, first, the storm on that last night on Wild Cat Island in SA, and then, the blizzard that blew the sledge to the North Pole with the D's hanging on. These word pictures do leave very impressive pictures in my inward eye.

Then there is the big storm in Peter Duck which looks to me like a passing hurricane, combined with an earthquake or at least major landslides caused by the storm on a loose volcanic soil. I don't know how realistic the description is, luckily, never having lived through either type of disaster.

The waterspout is a separate type of phenomenon, being more like a nautical tornado. I don't know how likely the two are to go together.
