The word pictures in any story "help to set the scene" - just think of the verbal discriptions Mr. Dickens presented us (it helped him to make more money as he got paid by the word, I understand). I still picture in my mind Miss Haversham's house and room and I think it is still fairly accurate! In so many movies the story becomes disjointed due to all the "action" shots which seem to be the main selling points of the film. The word images in a written tale make the story richer and closer to the reader. I still retain visual images of the Lake District generated by Mr. Ransome's word pictures.

Ian's village is absolutly fantastic! I am absolutely green with envy! To bad so many towns seem to have to sprawl and eat up beautiful countryside - not to say anything about taking land out of production of edibile products.
