Enclose it in < pre > < /pre >....and it'll appear exactly as you presented it.

Um, yes, but...

Ooooh! Someone's been reading what I wrote! Next week, we'll take up lists, numbered and otherwise.

Reading certainly, but with my browser (Firefox) set to: Serif: Times New Roman CE; Sans serif: Helvetica CE; Monospace: Courier CE; < pre > also keeps my font as Courier just as it appears in Tarboard's editor window which is not what I wanted at all. The non-breaking space code changed my world, except that at first I was trying to enclose it in "<" and ">" and wondering why that wouldn't do. Finally pushed in the right direction by John N, I generated some spaces in Mozilla's WYSIWYG editor and looked them up in the HTML mode and the penny finally dropped.

How could I have been so stupid? [Answers by snail mail please enclosing a donation to the pig trotter and Spirytus fund.]

Lists, and numbered lists, I think I can now do properly:

Here are ten reasons to build a new Swallow

  • It would give us endless excitement on Tarboard.
  • It would encourage scientific research into the origin's of the vessel, or vessels, real or fictional, owned by Arthur Ransome or written about by him, known by the name of "Swallow".
  • It would be tremendous fun.
  • etc.
  • I was aware that generating these with non-breaking spaces is dodgy. Prompted by Jon I have now found the LI type function which is a much more elegant way.

This is all very interesting, although possibly the AR connection is wearing a little thin. Still it should be OK to discuss how to post on Tarboard without incurring The Great Censor's wrath.

Finally, one for Ian E-N. I have a hazy recollection (I'm afraid that all my recollections are rather hazy these days.) that you were working on a Google-type search engine to allow us to search the board. Am I right?
