My grandparent's houses both had a "drawing room", which was in one case a formal room which was hardly ever used. In that house, there was another much cosier informal room opening on to the garden called appropriately enough the garden room. The other was used as a regular sitting and chatting area in the evening (no TV) but there was an informal room beside the kitchen where they ate most meals. The dining room only being used for formal occasions and big festivities such as Christmas.
The only suggestion I would have for the use of the unknown room would be as a formal drawing room as in my first example with the other room being a more family oriented one.
