I fancy Nancy (rhyme unintended) would have beaten Sir Francis Chichester and sailed around the world single handed long before he did. I drove down with some friends to Plymouth from the Manchester area (all in England (I tend forget how far away some of you wonderful tarborders are)after a day's work, arriving in Plymouth at about 2.00 a.m. on the day he was due to arrive. Unbeknownst to myself, I had parked up by the press tent, and as my friends went for a breath of fresh air, I awoke to find press cameras snapping me as I dosed. The result: my photo was on the front page undeneath Sir Francis's - the headline: "Hero sleeps after long Journey" or something very similar......
