Re the numbers of boys and girls in his books, I agree that he often has more girls than boys, though his books are not seen as books about girls! And as Nancy says in SA, “explorers and pirates, not children!”.

Some boys are marginal. Dum & Dee in SW do not do much in SW. But Jacky Warriner from Low Farm at Watersmeet does appear in more than one book, and has a whole chapter in PM. He is also in SD, and in PP where he is the boy on the Watersmeet farm (which has only an old man and a boy to fight the fire).

But if we are “counting heads” how about the other Coot Club members in CC and BS, eg the boy who got a stomach-ache from spending phone pennies on cheap bananas. Plus George & Ralph! The boy John sees in the boatbuilders in SD. And Roger’s rival, the young chief in GN.

PS: Note the heading!
