Peter:

I think I have raised in past posts the impact AR has had on my ethical development. I believe he has a lot to teach us, and the fantasies relate to replicating some of the things he did to experience what he experienced in preparing to write the books. AR was a reporter - he wrote about things that interested him, sailing, fishing etc, the fact he got paid to do it is a bonus. The people on this site write about what interests them. They also write directly to me and I answer them, aka Pam on books, Jock on Poland and Thames skiffs, both in the last two days. Ed about every other day.

I would love to sail with Nancy, but that is a real fantasy, which if I confessed to the average shrink would see me on a daily dose of a nice calming medicine. So the next best thing is sailing a gaff rigged boat on Coniston. It is always better to sail with someone or in a group, now if I sail with you and turn the boat turtle then I am only repeating part of CN, getting you all wet, cold and miserable and loving the whole experience, like SW.

Perhaps you could tell me in simple words what element of Ransome I am supposed to discuss or give am an example- today I covered WCI, boat building, sailing, ice skating, climbing etc. I ranged a bit further abroad, but that is part of the fun, in ranging abroad I got 4 emails directly from Tarboarders, some of them quite humourous to an old Aussie.

If we take the ice skating example, it is unlikely that I will get to England at the same time as RD or that the lake would be frozen over, but it is a simple trek from Anne's parent's place to Thunder Bay and we could skate there.

So relax and enjoy yourself, if I get to take you sailing I suggest you buy a wet suit.

JMN
