While I am flattered (I think) at being #3 on JN's Fantasy List (his AR Fantasy List, I hasten to add: I would feel less comfortable at being on a fantasy list including Keira Knightley, Renee Zellweger etc) there are two problems with the idea of our skating from Canada to the US (or vice-versa):
1 The centre of Lake Superior never freezes sufficiently to allow skating (maybe -- once every few years -- for a cat, but not for a 220lb lump like me). Skating around the edges probably couldn't be accomplished before the ice melted;
2 I can't skate (not ice, roller or roller-blade). Never tried any of them (I used to cross-country ski, in my more energetic youth).
Maybe you should change it to sailing across in Nancy Blackett, John. Except I can't sail (did some in little dinghies on the Orwell near Pinmill nearly 50 years ago. Don't think that would help taking a big boat across Superior, which can sink ocean-going vessels).
Not much use, am I? (I can camp -- last did it two years ago at Mammoth Cave KY). Oh, and I can't dowse, either. Bet I could have helped John with his map of SW, though.
