This probably isn't the place to crow about this but I really can't resist it.

Some years ago I organised a Race Day between Peter Duck and Nancy Blackett. The then owner was kind enough? to give me her keys and the run of her for the weekend.

I spent a solitary day and night on Nancy thoroughly enjoying myself, and in the morning started the engine, raised the mainsail and the anchor and sailed her singlehanded from Pin Mill to Woolverstone Marina pursued by Martin Lewis in Imp -sized Nipper under oars.

On race day we sailed from Woolverstone, down the Orwell and up the Stour, most of the way ahead of Nancy. On the return leg we were still leading but Greg Palmer's greater experience and local knowledge paid off. I think we lost by about 400 yards, but who cared?

A full description of the day can be found on pp43, 44 and 45 in the 1994 edition of Mixed Moss.
