I got a notice through the mail this morning, inviting me to the TARS Northern Region AGM at Bolton Abbey Village Hall, Yorks, on 19th November. The advertised programme is: AGM itself in the morning (election of committee, approval of accounts, usual sort of thing), and then after lunch an illustrated talk by Brian Bonser on his 'Love Affair with Nancy' (BB is referring to the 'Nancy Blackett'- he is one of the registered 'Nancy Blackett' skippers). There will also be the usual TARS Bookstall and a 'Nancy Blackett' book stall.
It looks like a really good day, but I note that there is, strangely, no mention of law books or Oxford English Dictionaries. The AGM agenda does not have an item concerning wrangling over any rule. In fact, it looks fair to be a Tarboard-free zone that day, apart from my own presence. Tarboarders will be glad to know that if the subject of Tarboard crops up, I shall stand up and apologise, on behalf of this board, to the members present at the meeting for the totally unwarranted remarks made recently on this board about the Society. I think it is the least I can do, even though those remarks are now removed.
