For the work of a classic photographer of working steam engines (in the southeastern US), visit the O. Winston Link Museum, in Roanoke, VA. Link was a professional photographer who devoted his spare time to documenting the Norfolk & Western steeam engines during the 1950s through the retirement of the last one in 1960. He worked at night, using vast runs of cables and flash equipment he designed and built himself to light the photographs. He relied heavily on his education as a civil engineer. Dick would have greatly admired him.
