Wellington College in Wellington, New Zealand had in the 1950s the 3rd to 5th forms as: A, Shell A, B, Shell B, C, Shell C and Remove. Wellington College, a boy’s college, was founded in the 19th century (there was and still is a seperate Wellington Girls College). Based on English Grammar Schools I would think.

So shell A (where I was) was below the top or A form; B was below Shell A but above Shell B, and Remove was the bottom form! You sat School Certificate in the 5th Form; if you failed the first time (I didn't) time went into the Upper 5th Form. After that the 6th Form, then the Upper 6th if you stayed for a 5th year (which I did), but the Upper 6th became the 7th Form. Now called Years 9 to 13 (I think).

Yes, there was a Wellington College in England too (I think it largely educated for a military career)!
