I went to a forward-thinking secondary school in Cumbria that had the right attitude, a nearby lake, along with two Enterprises (1428 and 9493) and a Cadet for use from the age of about 13 onwards. The Cadet was a clunker, as was 9493, but 1428 was a joy: a sweet boat to sail and to race. I wonder where it is today?

Giving control (and therefore responsibility) of a boat to children at a young age is a very positive experience, in my book. While there are real problems with regards to insurance, perception of risk, and staff out-of-hours policies, it is deeply saddening if the opportunity for children to learn to sail isn't as wide as it was when I learned 30 years ago.

Andy (able to remember boat numbers from thirty years ago! Eeek!)
