The closest AR ever comes is in Swallowdale, when they've just discovered the note from 1901 signed by Molly & J. Turner and Bob Blackett.

There has been some speculation on TarBoard, including the possibility that Captain Flint and Bob Blackett worked for the (British) Secret Service, and Bob Blackett disappeared in Russia. Speculation revolves around John, on the Murmansk run during WW II, finding and rescuing him. For further information on these speculations, use Ian's "Search" feature.
