I wouldn't swear that the RNSA 14 was pre-war, but they always looked that way to me.
I've always loosely referred to a pivoted centreboard, wood or steel, as "the 'plate." Come to think of it,when I had a Mirror Dinghy I called the dagger board "the 'plate" as well. Everybody seemed to understand what I meant. Perhaps it is just my sloppy use of speech.
For what it is worth, the French don't distinguish between centreboards, centreplates and dagger boards - all are called "le Derive" They evidently don't think the difference is fundamental - nor do I!
