Winter Holiday will always have a special place in my heart, as it was the first AR book I read. In fact, I always recommend it to non-sailing newcomers to the AR series, because of the way it is principally told from the point of view of the Ds as "outsiders" being introduced to the exciting world of the Blacketts and the Walkers. I like the way you, as the reader, are slowly brought into their world along with the Ds, so you feel like you have friends with whom to share your ignorance of morse, knot-tying etc.

To be thrust into SA without any specialist knowledge at all, I think, could be alienating to a new reader and I like to encourage as many people as possible into this fabulous and intelligent world of adventure!
