I believe that captain flint was a major success. he was a published author with a runaway bestseller. As well he obviously had some independant means vis a vis his travelling and the obvious admiration of such people as timothy stedding and perhaps more importantly the charcol burners and other normal lake folk. he also obviously impressed Peter Duck... No mean feat when compared with his inspiration "Captain Schmell.
