Sorry. I don't agree.

I don't wear lifejackets under normal circumstances except where there happens to be a requirement to do so. I believe that they make you clumsier and therefore more likely to have an accident in the first place.

At sea, especially at night, different considerations arise, but here I believe a lifeline is more important - as in WD. A lifejacket would not have helped John if he had gone o.b. without the lifeline.

My boats do carry lifejackets and other life saving equipment, so that these are available if dangerous circumstances arise. I would not hesitate to tell people to wear them at that point. However I would not under normal circumstances make anybody who was a competent swimmer wear them unless they wished to do so.
