Then there was the epitome of tastlessness - the "Classic Comics" -- books reduced to a comic book - "Treasure Island" and "Wuthering Heights", etc.. No subscription to worry about, you just bought them at the newstand for 15 cents (more expensive than regular comix - remember, you're sucking up Kulture!). You will undoubtably reveal your age if you remember these! Several steps below Readers Digest, they made Cliff Notes look almost readable. Imagine "Peter Duck" reduced to a comic book! (If done right, could be almost fun!)

So much of our culture seems to be stripped to the bare essentials, like Mexican Food with out the spices! I am finding, though, that "Faux Kulture" has its own place, otherwise we wouldn't be discussing subjects such as Condensed Books. But then, the sad thing is that for some folks Faux Kulture IS their ONLY culture, they mistake Reader's Digest for the Real Thing.

Eric Abraham - In the middle of it all!
