ISTR that in Murder must Advertise one of the advantages of the Whiffleway scheme that Lord Peter (or rather his copy writer alter ego, Death Bredon) concocted to sell whifflets cigarettes was that it would appeal to women in general, who it was asserted had hitherto (as at the early 1930s) only dabbled as tobacco consumers but this might attract them to the mass consumption of "gaspers".
