Nancy Blackett was his first boat from Littlehampton built in 1931 by Hillyards boatyard. She was long thought only to have been completed by Hillyards after they bought in a group of part finished hulls but recent evidence seems to dispute that and she is now believed to be a true Hillyard boat.
Later, Ransome had two Lottie Blossoms, one shortly after the other, as he was often disatisfied with his boats. Both Lotties were built by Hillyards.
Hillyards is still going in Littlehampton on the banks of the River Arun.
