The Guardian polled adults - not children - so the results don't necessarily reflect current children's reading tastes. I suspect that if children between 6 and 16 were polled then J K Rowling, Philip Pullman and Tolkien would make last month's UK top ten most popular books, C S Lewis would be a new entrant in this month's top ten and Arthur Ransome would be a permanent member of the top thirty.
